Download GHDL

GHDL for Windows

Since May 2006, there is a pre-built version of Windows. This is a command-line only version, almost like the Linux version. :

You should download ghdl-0.29.1 from the original download page (bottom of the page). The previously provided link here was for a defective version (ghdl-0.29) which should be replaced.

GHDL for Linux

GHDL has been packaged for Debian and can be easily installed with the command:

sudo apt-get install ghdl

Alternatively you can install if from the binaries for i686-pc-linux-gnu from here:

GHDL latest version for Linux i686

Please, read the INSTALL file before installing the binaries.

GHDL for Mac OS X

The mcode version of GHDL has been packaged for Mac OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, i386 (32 bit). Installation requires administrative privilege for installing in /usr/local.

A functional gtkwave waveform viewer can be obtained from the eng-osx project on Sourceforge. Alternatively with Xcode and Macports, installed, in a terminal window type:

sudo port install gtkwave

The build may be lengthy, 44 libraries plus gtkwave built from source and installed when starting from scratch. Tony Bybell also has pre-released a Quartz based gtkwave app installed from a dmg, that will allow you to open a waveform file after a save file is produced. The save file can be given the prefix .gtkw, which doesn't collide with existing uses of .sav. Lion and Snow Leopard only (x86_64, Darwin10). See Quartz (not X11) App bundle for x86_64.

GHDL latest mcode version for Mac OS X versions 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, i386 SDK 10.5.

For other systems

Currently, GHDL is only available for the GNU/Linux system, for Windows and Mac OS X. GHDL has also been successfully compiled on Sparc from source.
